Traveling to Austin

Dayna and I spent Friday traveling to Austin, Texas. We will be spending a few days in Austin, and it marks the first trip to Texas for either of us.

Once we survived the always fun Boston traffic and arrived at Logan Airport, we got through TSA checkpoints and grabbed a quick bite to eat at Fresh City. After a short wait and a gate change, we boarded our Southwest flight about 6 p.m. The flight took off about 40 minutes late but after a bumpy take-off, it was a smooth 2 hour and 20 minute flight to St. Louis. We looked at photos from our trip to Iceland in July and then our road trip through New York, Ontario, Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota earlier that month. This started as a way to mock my very long hair at the time but morphed into a fun trip down memory lane. Here are a handful of photos from those trips:

We spent the last part of the St. Louis flight playing cribbage. I won! It’s a rarity: Dayna leads our all-time series, 43-33.

We sat at a shoe shine stand and made Andy Dwyer/Parks & Rec references until we boarded for Austin. Mostly, we read the books we purchased in St. Louis on this leg: Dayna reading Amy Poehler’s Yes, Please while I read Descent by Tim Johnston. We were both happy with our choice.

We landed about 11:15 Central time. We had our rental (a Dodge Journey after we were upgraded to Emerald Club status, whatever that is, by National), and ten minutes later, we were at our Air BnB rental and asleep by 12:30.

We are looking forward to going to the Austin Marathon/Half-Marathon with our friend Dan and exploring the city. We plan to go see Ellis Paul perform tonight!
